This is quite a bit since there was no running water, just an outhouse, and no staff that I saw for my entire 2 day stay.Ĭonclusion: Its a great little trip outside Hartford for anyone to make. The campground was $26 (If I remember correctly) for campers out of state. Not a big deal (I actually became good friends with them in the 2 days I was there). When I talked to them about it, they said they set up on the wrong site and the ranger said to allow me to have their spot. When I arrived at my spot (which was reserved online) I was surprised to find that another group had already set up camp. I decided to at least go and set up my tent and then venture out again to try and find something. When I arrived, I attempted to find a ranger station, or at least a reception desk, but was unable to locate anyone. Although the falls are beautiful, the lack of even basic campground necessities were disappointing. I should have spent a little more time looking into things before deciding to camp here. I ended up coming to Devils Hopyard for a camping trip. Pros: Falls were nice, close to road and easy to findĬons: Camping area was an open field, with no real distinction in sites, no flush toilets/showers I would like to have had the exact location of the mill, or of the Battle with the British indicated somewhere. There’s also a campsite for those who intend to stay.įor me, the only part that was somewhat disappointing, is there is no monument or homage paid to the historic significance of the area. Lots and lots of places to picnic, and Porta potties are available near the parking areas. If you’re just there to see the falls, for the less adventurous, you could park at the side of the road and look over the fence to see them- breathtakingly gorgeous! Or park, and walk for hours. I enjoy the hiking, so the state park is well worth the miles and miles of trails through the hills you could take. It was unseasonably warm today, so there were many people about- Notable in that this place is not on a main drag, it clearly takes some driving on numerous hidden back roads to get here. The trails may be a little rocky, and in some spots steep, but the yellows and oranges kept the beauty ablaze!!
